VIP Vegas: Celebrating a Poker Win

Las Vegas, Nevada

People visit this city for a variety of reasons, but mine was to hang out with my cousins who were living there to take part in the World Series of Poker.
Do I know anything about the event? Nope. Have I ever played poker anywhere other than some random house party? Nope. Am I able to stay awake and focused for hours on end? Nope. Will I support friends or family in their dreams and celebrate their successes? Absolutely!
This whole experience took place in 2006, so some details may have become exaggerated or forgotten. The tournament that one of my cousin’s friends was participating in was coming to an end, and he managed to win! No clue what place he came in or how much he won, but I remember that we went to a fancy nightclub to celebrate. I can’t recall the club’s name, but I do remember walking to the front of a very long line, him handing the bouncer a wad of cash, and following him in. A table of people was removed so our group could move in, and we had table service all night. It was an experience I know I’ll never repeat—not only because I’m pushing 40, but also because I have zero interest in returning to a loud, late-night party town.
I’ve been back to Vegas since 2006, but I stayed outside of town at a spa or walked the strip during the day. I can say that whatever reason or phase of life you’re in, visiting Vegas will always result in some sort of lasting memory.
