Norwegian Cruise in the Caribbean – Ice Bar

Whenever I'm on a ship, I find myself getting to know the cruise director and their staff. On this particular cruise, the director was someone I had met on a prior trip. A day or so after recognizing him and saying hello, an envelope arrived at my cabin with an invitation to visit the Ice Bar on the ship!
Now, you’re probably thinking that I don't like being cold, so why would I voluntarily go into a room made of ice? Other than sporting a lovely yellow snow parka, it was truly for the honor of being invited and for the story.
Since this cruise was heading to the Caribbean, it was a warm-weather adventure, and I wasn’t prepared for a freezing cold experience. They loaned us gloves and parkas to enter, but underneath, I was wearing a swimsuit and sandals. I lasted about 20 minutes, which was long enough to try two cocktails at the bar, act like a queen on a throne, and have some funny chats with other cruisers.
So, would I recommend this experience to others? YES! While it was very cold and uncomfortable for a while, it was unique and something different. I will always recommend experiences that are safe and create lasting memories.
